What is an Inlay or Onlay?

Inlays and onlays can be considered a hybrid between a filling and a crown. Sometimes a tooth requires more than a filling, but cutting the whole tooth down for a crown would require the removal of more natural tooth structure than is necessary. In this case, an inlay or onlay, can be fabricated that will replace the missing tooth structure and protect the tooth from further breakdown while minimizing the removal of the natural tooth structure.
